Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, is the most famous and prominent among all the Sastha temples in Kerala.
It is one of the largest annual pilgrimage sites in the world, with an estimate of over 10 to 15 million devotees visiting every year.
Mandalapooja (15 November to 26 December), Makaravilakku (14 January) and Maha Vishuva Sankranti (14 April) and the first five days of each Malayalam month.
The hill shrine is nestled in Western Ghats in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district. Situated about 3,000 feet above sea level, Sabarimala temple is around 175 km north from state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
After Mecca, Sabarimala is considered to be the second largest seasonal pilgrim centre in the world. Custodian of the temple, Travancore Devasom Board says around 3-4 crore pilgrims visit the temple during the season.
